Week 8

1.  I definitely could have spent more time working through the protocols, as I rushed myself quite a bit. Once I had downloaded all of the software, which took quite a while as I had initially handled some of it incorrectly, I was able to get used to the program. The powerpoints were extremely helpful in figuring everything out.

2.

This graph shows the difference between microbial diversity within the sets of data.

3. My questions are the same as last week.

What are the similarities between different species of pear? Does the origin of the pear itself affect its genetic diversity, or is the classification less than we may assume?

  • This question can still be answered, but addresses more prior research than I completed this week.

Which berry with external features, raspberries or strawberries, contain more diversity within its sourdough sample? Does the presence of external seeds contain more vessels to hold DNA, or does the bulbs of the berries? As both are the same color and grown on vines, we may be able to isolate the differences between these.

  • The specifics of the seeds being the answer to this question is still up in the air, but the core question is still the same.

As bananas grow in trees and zucchinis on the ground, does the origin being closer to dirt increase the amount of organisms found within the zucchini DNA?

  • This is a repeat question, as well, but I chose to focus my data in the second quesiton.
