Week 9

1. I chose to pursue my second question: Which berry with external features, raspberries or strawberries, contain more diversity within its sourdough sample? Does the presence of external seeds contain more vessels to hold DNA, or does the bulbs of the berries? As both are the same color and grown on vines, we may be able to isolate the differences between these.

I believe that the raspberry will contain more DNA variety, as its crevices contain more surface area than the strawberry seeds, which increases the opportunities for holding unique microbial specimen.

This experiment is similar in design to my original with lychees, if my starters had proven themselves successful enough to grow.

2.  Sample 14, strawberry, and its control by the same individual, sample 12, were used in my analysis. The raspberry, sample 48, and its similarly connected control, 47, were both chosen for my analysis as well.

3. I had trouble getting my files to unzip, and therefore difficulty analyzing my results. I have tried again and again throughout my time this week, but I believe I will devote a day over the weekend to simply figure out what I am doing wrong; I was able to get them into the workbench for our practice files. Therefore, my answers are inconclusive at this point in time.
